Let's Talk About Books

IMGP7869 Album for Rachel and Devin's child, William

Christopher has been a busy bee sanding, sanding and sanding some more to get the wooden cover of this baby album just right. This book is for his cousin Rachel, who just gave birth to her first child - a little boy named William.

Unlike other books he's done, this time he added a decorative wire bookmark - made by myself and posted here earlier last month. You can see how the larger blue beads peak out from one end in this photo.

The two images above are of a wedding album created for Carrie Dubiel. The fabric on the spine was selected to reflect the greenish-blue she'd chosen as a wedding color.

This more colorful fabric was chosen for the wedding album of Sarah Artes. Her ceremony was punctuated by a variety of colors, reflecting the Nigerian heritage of her fiancé, so we felt the fabric should encompass the same spirit.

Can you imagine a better wedding purchase/gift than a hand bound album with wedding color coordinating fabric accenting a gorgeous natural wood? That's right..natural. Christopher doesn't believe in staining or painting wood, so the woods in the albums you see are waxed to bring out their color. The smooth finish that is so silky even a baby would appreciate it comes from the hours he spends sanding it, not from a layer of lacquer.

Of course, sometimes Christopher does things for the sake of art, and not for someone's wedding or newborn.

Those are farking fabulous--makes me feel all covetous inside. You guys ever think of selling those?

Of course we think of selling..the only problem is they would start around $250 or so depending on the wood and the fabric, etc. and go up from there. But consider this post a "look what I can do" for commissions. *smile*

For something like that, especially if you push it specifically to folks getting hitched, $250 and then some is perfectly reasonably. You'll find utter shite in that price range...and you have here something utterly lovely. I swear, you two could make a killing! Perhaps I will blog them today!
